Class 1

We have been having a very busy time in Class 1!

In literacy, we have been focussing on our phonics skills and letter formation.  In phonics reception children have learnt the sounds n, m, d and g. We have now learnt 9 sounds (s,a,t,p,i,m,n,d and g) and have been starting to put these together and are learning to "blend" the sounds so that they form words. Any practice at home would be greatly appreciated; guidance on the sounds is on the school website under the tab Curriculum and Learning Support/Early Years/English and Maths.

Year 1 children are learning to read and write words that are consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant (CCVCC) eg: spark, blunt, glint. This is quite a tricky skill listening to all the sounds and making sure we spell the words correctly.

In maths reception children have been learning to add "one more" to numbers and to work out the reverse "one less" than a given number.

Year 1 children have problem solvers and looking at word problems and explaining their reasons for their answers. Reasoning ensures a deeper level of understanding of the maths, and embeds the concepts.

We have also been making fruit smoothies (yum)..... we talked about our favourite fruits, pressed the fruit: berries and bananas, mixed them with ice-cream and milk, it was delicious!

We had amazing fun at Forest School, where we made dens in the woods and school grounds.
